Required Safety Training (Due 8/16/2022)
Haltom Family, There is nothing more important than the safety of you and your students. I wish that we had a magic formula that we could just sprinkle to ensure that every day you come here, there is no threat of harm. There’s not. However, there are some proving strategies that we can implement as a staff to drastically increase our chances of safety making it through these emergencies than if we didn’t implement them. The district went through those strategies on August 11th. On tomorrow, August 15th we will briefly recap what was talked about on Thursday, and talk about the means of communication we will utilize to carry out that plan.
Below are some of the tools you will need to effectively be able to implement these strategies. I can’t stress the importance of familiarizing yourselves with the below content. Some of the videos will depend on the type of device you will use (or most likely to use) during an emergency. Please view these videos and direct any questions to the bottom link. Thank you in advance for your attention to this matter. All videos/presentations need to be watched/viewed by August 16th.

T-TESS Objectives due Sept 7, 2022
Liz Pena said that the goals are due at the end of the third week of school. The documents should be in Eduphoria STRIVE by September 7, 2022.
You should have your SLO (Student Learning Objective) and your professional goal posted by then. Throughout the year there are other required postings, including data referencing your progress towards your goals. You can place you evidence/artifacts on the google drive, and then upload to STRIVE from there.
There were two T-TESS Training videos, due 8/15/2022 (Monday) during PD, which can be reviewed below:
T-TESS Video, Part 1 (24 minutes)
T-TESS Video, Part 2 (13 minutes)

How do I submit a computer related problem?
If you have computer problems, you can go to the Birdville ISD home page and select "For Staff". If you scroll down on the bottom left you will find "Technology Service Request and Knowledge Base" which has excellent help resources for you.
If you just can't figure it out, you will need to login (near the top left) and select "New Ticket".
You can do that here: https://helpdesk.birdvilleschools.net/support/home

How do I enter time on the the professional timesheet for other work?
There is a google doc written by Tiffany Jones that shows how do docuement work.
This might be used for documenting tutorials (not just any tutorials, but the EOC tutorials required for some students), or for other types of "overtime" work. All of this kind of work needs to be approved and have some sort of budget code associated with it from which the money comes.

How do I request time off?
If you are requesting time off for sick leave, there is no approval needed, simply go to the birdville portal and find "Frontline (Aesop)". There you enter the date of your absence and whether a substitute is required (there usually is). Open the drop-down menu "Absence Reason" and select "Local SICK LEAVE". Also notify your department chair and your assistant principal via text or email that you will be out.
If you are requesting personal (non-sick) leave, you need to get approval from your principal. Find a sub that will fill the position if you know of one, or post the absence in Frontline as normal, but without selecting a substitute. Once a substitute picks up the job, you can submit a request. Administration prefers if you submit multiple-day requests as separate days, rather than a single block in Frontline. That way if subs need to cancel a day or one gets moved, it doesn't mess up the whole system.
The request form can be found on the Birdville home page under "Human Resources", "For Staff", "Leaves and Absences", "Discretionary Leave".
A copy of the form current when this FAQ was written is also here. Fill inthe blanks, save it, and submit the form via email to the principal.
Discretionary leve equests cannot be submitted unless you already have a substitute.
There are additional procedures for taking time away from school for specific school events, such as field trips, or professional development when you are sent by the school.
This informational form is also helpful.
Make sure you have something for you kids to do in class (keeping your Canvas page up-to-date is helpful), and leave notes for your substitute. Your department may require that you keep a "sub folder" in a place known to your department chair or neighbor-teachers, or that it be prominantly displayed in case of an unexpected absence.
Such a folder might include seating charts, behavior expectations, helpful students in each class, location of classroom materials and how the students can borrow them if needed. Pictures of an Example Sub Folder are attached.
